VULVAE ACUTAE

Vulvae Acutae was exhibited in March 2025 at Espace Dukat for the exhibition “HOLLOWS”.
Where is that wonderfully large, long and hard object, seized by the ‘ape-man’ in the 1968 film, briefly brandished in the air with the intent of smashing a skull, then used to kill a rival for the first time, before being thrown into the sky in a whirling motion?
This is a different story. That of the traditionally soft, docile, tender, weak or even passive — the vulva, that, through the fascinating and unsettling myth of the vagina dentata, is metamorphosed into an image that embodies fear, desire and power. Having risen atop their monoliths, the toothed vulvas question social constructions of femininity, sexuality, consent and control of the body.
The toothed vulvas thus become a symbol of resistance, capable of biting. Do they create discomfort in the ‘ape-man’? Do they awaken in him the fear of losing his thing? Of losing his own virility, his identity, or his power?
